City of Pompano Beach Begins Transformative McNab Road Streetscape Improvement and Bridge Replacement Project

The City of Pompano Beach is proud to announce the official start of construction mid-July, 2025 of the highly anticipated McNab Road Streetscape Improvement and Bridge Replacement Project. This vital undertaking, supported by Pompano Beach voters through the Go Bond initiative, will modernize a critical east-west corridor, enhancing safety, connectivity, and overall quality of life for the community.

"This is a project that the voters supported through the Go Bond initiative because it is essential for the future of our City," said Mayor Rex Hardin. "While some patience will be required during construction, the outcome will create transformative benefits for Pompano Beach. We understand that construction can be disruptive, and we have been proactively communicating with HOAs and businesses that will be affected. We are dedicated to minimizing impacts and keeping everyone affected by this project informed every step of the way.”

McNab Road, a vital east-west corridor featuring a bridge originally constructed in 1959, was identified as a priority project under the Go Bond initiative. This corridor plays a critical role in connecting neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and community spaces, making it a central focus for improvements that will better serve our growing community.

Project Scope: McNab Road Streetscape and Bridge Replacement

The McNab Road Streetscape and Bridge Replacement Project will modernize the corridor between South Cypress Road and Federal Highway, addressing key maintenance issues and upgrading outdated infrastructure to meet current standards. Driven by extensive community input, the project will address challenges such as a functionally obsolete bridge, narrow sidewalks, aging utilities, and flooding.

Key improvements include:

  • ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps
  • Road resurfacing, lighting, and drainage upgrades
  • New pedestrian and bike facilities
  • Improved bus stops and shelters
  • Utility infrastructure enhancements
  • Full bridge replacement to boost safety, resiliency, and navigability
  • Landscaping enhancements for a cohesive look and improved walkability

These updates will create a safer, more connected, and more resilient corridor for all users. Beyond the visible enhancements, this Complete Streets project will unlock a range of long-term benefits that go far beyond infrastructure. Ultimately, this initiative will help transform the McNab Road and Bridge corridor into a thriving, livable community—one where people of all ages, abilities, and travel preferences feel safe, connected, and welcomed.

Construction is expected to span approximately 18 months. A key phase of the project—the bridge replacement—is scheduled to start in May 2026, with construction lasting about 16 weeks. During this period, single-lane access will be maintained until the bridge phase begins, at which point a temporary detour will be implemented.
