Understanding Property Taxes
Property taxes are receiving increased attention with Amendment 3 appearing on the November ballot. If approved, the amendment would increase the Homestead Exemption, reducing property tax revenue collected by cities across Florida. Municipalities would then need to account for the reduction in revenue as part of their budgeting process.
With increased discussion surrounding property taxes, this is a good opportunity to explain how property tax revenue is used and how it helps fund City services, including public safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation, community programs, events, and other essential services.
