McNab Road Bridge: Smoother Sailing
Since the initial McNab Road Bridge Improvement Project was announced, the City has continued to coordinate closely with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and project partners to evaluate opportunities to reduce impacts to the community during construction. As a result of these efforts, a revised approach has been approved that will allow the bridge to remain open to marine traffic periodically throughout construction. While specific days and times for access will be communicated in advance via the City’s website, the "usable waterway" status is a testament to the careful planning aimed at maintaining progress in Pompano—both on land and on water.
In 2018, the residents of Pompano Beach sent a clear message: they were ready to invest in the future. Through the "G.O. Pompano!" bond initiative, the community prioritized 25 high-impact projects to modernize our City, including McNab Road Bridge, which was constructed in 1959. To date, crews have made incredible strides on the streetscape phase of the project:
- Utilities: Stormwater, water, and gas infrastructure installations are substantially complete.
- Sidewalks & Curbs: 90% of the new concrete flatwork is finished, creating a safer path for pedestrians.
- Power Infrastructure: FPL conduit and pole installations are 80% complete.
To keep the project on schedule and minimize interference with the 2026-2027 school year, the current phase began on Monday, April 13, 2026. At this time, the bridge closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for demolition and reconstruction.
What you need to know about the closure:
- Local Access: Residents, businesses, mail delivery, and trash services will maintain access at all times.
- Through-Traffic: Commuters will be re-routed along a planned detour.
- The Re-Opening: The bridge is scheduled to welcome traffic back on October 1, 2026.
The McNab Road Bridge project is a centerpiece of our commitment to a safer, more connected Pompano Beach. We thank the community for their patience as we build a stronger corridor for the next generation.
