McNab Road Bridge Nears Completion

A stronger, safer, and more resilient McNab Road is taking shape, and the progress is easy to see as crews advance the McNab Road Streetscape and Bridge Replacement Project along this vital east-west corridor. The new bridge now stands approximately 4 feet higher than the original, giving boaters more clearance below and making the crossing better able to withstand rising water levels for decades to come.

As we all have experienced, South Florida's rainy season has been especially persistent this year, so the bridge phase of the project is now expected to reopen to traffic by November 1, 2026, weather permitting and barring any other unforeseen construction impacts. The good news is that this adjustment isn't expected to affect the bigger picture. The full McNab Road Streetscape and Bridge Replacement Project is still on track for completion in December 2026.

"The City understands the impact a project of this magnitude can have on residents, businesses, and everyone who travels through this corridor," said Mayor Rex Hardin. "We appreciate the community's continued patience as we work through weather and construction challenges to complete these important improvements. The result will be a safer, more resilient, and more accessible McNab Road that will serve our community for decades to come."

The original bridge was built in 1959 and had reached the end of its useful life, which made its replacement a top priority under our voter-approved 2018 G.O. Pompano! Bond program. The project stretches from South Cypress Road to Federal Highway and brings a full list of upgrades for drivers, walkers, cyclists, and transit riders alike. Those upgrades include ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps, fresh road resurfacing, enhanced lighting, upgraded drainage, new pedestrian and bicycle facilities, improved bus stops and shelters, utility upgrades, and beautiful new landscaping.
City staff are working hand in hand with the contractor, engineer, and entire project team to move the remaining work forward as efficiently as possible while holding firm to the highest safety and quality standards. Thank you for your patience as we build a McNab Road our whole community can be proud of!
