Summer Campers Create Trash the Wave | A New Public Art Temporary Sculpture Dedication

South of Family Fisher Pier | 100 Pompano Square

Thursday, January 26th

3:30 pm

The City of Pompano Beach’s Public Art Committee and Hola Mundo Summer Camp are proud to announce the dedication of Trash the Wave, a temporary public artwork. The colorful sculpture features collected and cleaned trash that was crafted into a sunny beachside scene on a surfboard. Created by over 50 students from Hola Mundo Summer Camp, the artwork is a visible reminder to keep our beaches beautiful. The dedication will take place on Thursday, January 26th at 3:30 p.m., just south of the Family Fisher Pier, at 100 Pompano Square, by the restroom pavilion. The event is free and open to the public.

The students worked together to create a sculptural piece of art by strategically placing the recycled trash to depict a sunny, inviting beach scene. The artwork allows viewers to appreciate the beauty of our natural resources, while contemplating the negative effects leftover trash has on our marine life and for the experience of the next visitor.

Preserving the beach is extremely important to the students at Hola Mundo Beach Camp, as their entire camp experience is based upon learning and playing sports on Pompano Beach.
