This Memorial Day, join the City of Pompano Beach in a heartfelt tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, invites residents and visitors to come together in remembrance, reflection, and gratitude.
The Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 26, at 9:00 a.m. The parade will begin at the former Wells Fargo Bank located at 2400 E. Atlantic Boulevard. and proceed to the City of Pompano Beach Cemetery, where a moving commemorative ceremony will follow.
Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, began after the Civil War as a time to honor those who died in military service. Over time, it evolved into a National Day of Remembrance observed on the last Monday in May. While the holiday marks the unofficial start of summer for many, its true purpose is to ensure that our fallen heroes are never forgotten.
Community members are encouraged to line the parade route with flags and signs of support. Local schools, scouts, veterans’ organizations, and civic groups will participate in honoring those who have served and sacrificed.
