The Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has announced two important developments in the progress of The McNab House and Botanical Gardens. During the CRA meeting on November 15th executives from Mad Room Hospitality presented a proposal to design, revitalize, and operate the restaurant, wine bar, patio, and event space at the venue. The proposal was accepted, and now the CRA will begin negotiations.
Additionally, a public input meeting is scheduled for December 6th at 6:00 pm at the Emma Lou Olson Center located at 1801 NE 6 Street, where Bermello, Ajamil and Partners (B&A) will host a presentation to select key elements for the botanical gardens.
“We are excited to be moving to the next phase of planning for The McNab House & Botanical Gardens,” said Nguyen Tran, CRA Director. “Mad Room Hospitality has an exceptional background in renovating historic and iconic venues while incorporating the history into the redevelopment efforts; we were impressed by their presentation and look forward to beginning negotiations. We also are thrilled to invite the public to participate in selecting the elements that will grace the botanical gardens. The team from B&A has an innovative presentation prepared that will truly engage the public!”
Mad Room Hospitality is the team behind renowned restaurant brands including Ball & Chain, Taquerias el Mexicano, Los Altos, and many more. In addition, the group was selected to renovate and reinvent the Mai Kai Restaurant and Polynesian Show after devastating water damage destroyed much of the iconic venue.
During the CRA presentation, Mad Room Hospitality showcased concepts for the restaurant which complement the architectural design of The McNab House, while bringing forth a coastal farmhouse style. The proposed menu will feature a modern twist on the farm-to-fork seasonal concept, while the Cellar at McNab House will emulate the allure of the 1920s era wine bar. The proposal also provided concepts for the patio courtyard and event space.
For the botanical gardens input meeting, B&A will be presenting detailed options regarding elements such as the possible plants and flowers to include, types of playground and social gathering options, event ideas, and more. Those in attendance will be able to “vote” via their phone through a special app.
The McNab House, built in 1926, was moved from its original location on Atlantic Boulevard, when the owners sold the land for development. With the support of the Pompano Beach Historical Society, the Pompano Beach CRA saved the historic home, moving it several blocks to McNab Park, with the vision of transforming the home into a restaurant and the surrounding land into a botanical garden. The goal of the McNab House & Botanical Gardens project is to continue economic growth within the East CRA and Atlantic Boulevard corridor. Activation of the public space will encourage more pedestrian activity and create a unique attraction for residents and visitors to enjoy.
