For the 36th consecutive year, the City of Pompano Beach has been honored with the prestigious Tree City USA designation by the Arbor Day Foundation, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to urban forestry and environmental stewardship.

This national recognition highlights the City’s continued dedication to preserving and enhancing its green spaces. To qualify as a Tree City USA community, municipalities must meet four foundational standards: maintaining a tree board or department, adopting a community tree care ordinance, investing a minimum of $2 per capita in urban forestry, and hosting an annual Arbor Day observance. Pompano Beach proudly upholds each of these criteria year after year.

“Trees do so much more than beautify our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Rex Hardin. “They provide shade, clean our air, manage stormwater, and even elevate our collective well-being. This recognition is a reflection of Pompano Beach’s proactive approach to building a sustainable and resilient City.”

The Tree City USA program is a nationwide movement supported by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. The program empowers communities to cultivate a greener future through thoughtful forestry practices.

Research consistently shows that urban trees play a vital role in improving quality of life. They mitigate the urban heat island effect, reduce noise pollution, filter the air we breathe, and enhance property values. When carefully selected and strategically planted, trees can even help cut household energy bills and boost mental and physical health.

As Pompano Beach continues to grow, so too does its dedication to creating a vibrant urban forest that benefits both current residents and future generations.
