City of Pompano Beach Announces Temporary Waterway Closure Beneath McNab Road Bridge for Construction Safety
The City of Pompano Beach is advising boaters and the marine community that, beginning Wednesday, July 22nd, the waterway beneath the McNab Road Bridge will be temporarily closed to all navigation for ten days as construction crews enter a critical phase of the McNab Road Streetscape and Bridge Replacement Project.
The temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safety of both construction personnel and the boating public while major bridge demolition and reconstruction activities take place overhead. During this phase, heavy equipment, material removal, and structural work will require a complete closure of the navigational channel beneath the bridge.
"Safety remains our highest priority throughout this project," said Mayor Rex Hardin. "While we recognize this temporary closure will impact boaters, it is a necessary step to safely complete this important infrastructure investment. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our residents and the marine community as we work to deliver a modern bridge that will serve Pompano Beach for generations."
Mariners are encouraged to plan accordingly if needed ahead of this short closure. If the timing of this closure changes in any way, we will send out an update.
The bridge replacement is part of the voter-approved 2018 "G.O. Pompano!" Bond Program and will provide numerous long-term benefits to the community, including improved safety, increased resiliency, enhanced pedestrian and bicycle facilities, upgraded infrastructure, and greater vertical and horizontal clearances for marine navigation once construction is complete.
The City appreciates the continued patience and understanding of residents, businesses, commuters, and the boating community as this transformative project progresses. Upon completion, the new McNab Road Bridge will provide a safer, stronger, and more resilient connection for all who travel by land and water.
