The New Downtown
Smart Choices Today, Big Savings Tomorrow
The New Downtown has been a dream in the works for more than three decades. Residents have weighed in at public meetings, shared ideas at community workshops, and helped shape what’s ahead: a lively, walkable Downtown with green space, local restaurants, cultural events, and room for families and businesses to grow.
The first step in that bigger plan is building a new civic space, which includes City Hall. While that part of the project has gotten a lot of attention, it’s only one piece of a much larger picture. A strong civic hub makes it possible to add the things people have asked for—plazas where families and neighbors can meet for many planned neighborhood events and festivities, and green corners where kids can run and play.
Because the City is already committed to moving forward, the real question is how to pay for it the new City Hall. Choosing public financing could save taxpayers an estimated $100 million compared with private borrowing. That’s money that stays right here in Pompano Beach, where it can support parks, family-friendly events, public safety, and other community priorities at the discretion of the City Commission.
This is less about “buildings” and more about “balance.” Residents have already invested time and energy into shaping the vision; now it’s about making sure we fund it responsibly. By being smart with our choices today, we can create a Downtown that feels true to the City with Florida’s Warmest Welcome: hospitable, vibrant, and built with care, while also protecting the City’s financial health for years to come.

A New Downtown Built for Everyday Life
Think about what makes a neighborhood enjoyable to spend time in: streets where you feel safe crossing, sidewalks shaded with trees, and a plaza where you can grab coffee with a friend or let the kids play. That’s the vision taking shape in Downtown Pompano Beach.
The New Downtown isn’t just about new buildings. It’s about making daily life easier and more enjoyable. Safer intersections at Dixie Highway and Atlantic Boulevard will mean better traffic flow, protected bike lanes, and crosswalks designed with families in mind. Wider sidewalks, fresh landscaping, and pocket parks will make a simple walk feel inviting, whether you’re heading to the Cultural Center for a performance or meeting friends at Old Town Untapped, a restaurant, Community Movie Night, the Artisan Market that highlights local small businesses or simply need some retail therapy with your friends.
Parking will be easier, too. Plans call for more spaces, designed to blend into the streetscape so they’re convenient without overwhelming the character of Downtown. And if you don’t feel like driving, we have that covered too. The Circuit rideshare will be expanded to ensure you have plenty of options to get to Downtown. A commuter rail station was also planned in Downtown with our partners at the County to further ensure smart growth.
All of this has been years in the making, shaped by community meetings and careful planning. And importantly, it’s being done with an eye toward protecting taxpayer dollars. Our new Downtown will generate new revenues and thousands of jobs for our residents. Also, Smart financing choices for the new City Hall ensure the City can deliver these improvements in the most cost-effective way possible to ensure those savings come back to you, our residents.
The result is a Downtown that feels like it belongs to all of us: safe, walkable, welcoming, and connected. Whether you’re biking to meet to a friend for lunch, taking your kids for ice cream, or just enjoying a shaded bench, these improvements are designed to make everyday life in Pompano a little brighter.
