Stay Connected, Stay Prepared: New Emergency Alerts and Hurricane Readiness

As the Atlantic hurricane season approaches, the City of Pompano Beach wants to remind all residents and business owners of the vital importance of proactive disaster preparation. To help the community stay fully informed, the City is transitioning to a new emergency notification system. If a crisis occurs, any urgent alerts sent to your phone will now display the caller ID number 954-786-7866, so please save this number in your contacts to ensure you never miss a critical update.

To further support your readiness efforts, the City has launched an informative new video online packed with essential hurricane preparation information, safety tips, and other highly useful tools. Residents are encouraged to visit the official Pompano Beach Emergency Management website to watch the video and download a digital copy of the comprehensive Hurricane Preparation Guide. When organizing your household's strategy, the Florida Division of Emergency Management reminds families to establish two designated meeting spots—one right outside your home and another outside your neighborhood—in case you become separated. Creating this personalized emergency strategy is quick and easy, taking only ten to fifteen minutes. By visiting the Florida Disaster website, you can access simple, step-by-step instructions to build a tailored plan that will ensure the safety and comfort of your family, home, and business when it matters most.

In a major emergency, first responders may not be able to reach everyone immediately, which is why state guidelines now urge families to stock a comprehensive supply kit designed to sustain every household member, including pets, for at least seven days. This kit should include one gallon of water per person per day for drinking and sanitation, non-perishable food that requires no cooking, a manual can opener, a two-week minimum supply of medications, flashlights, and extra batteries. Officials strongly emphasize that candles should never be used during a power outage due to the severe risk of fire. Additionally, it is highly recommended to keep a printed list of critical contact numbers and to ensure your vehicle's gas tank is kept at least half-full in case an evacuation order is issued.
