Sound the Alarm: Pompano Beach Fire Rescue is Turning 100!
It’s sure to be a blazing good time when the Pompano Beach Fire Rescue celebrates a century of dedicated service. To honor this milestone, they’re throwing a family-friendly bash on Saturday, August 22nd, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the historic Sample-McDougald House at 450 NE 10th St.
Whether you have a kid obsessed with firetrucks or you're just looking for a fantastic weekend plan, this event has something for everyone.
Expect a jam-packed morning full of history, excitement, and community spirit. Attendees can step back in time with a tour of the beautiful Sample-McDougald House, while the little ones stay entertained at the dedicated Kids' Zone, packed with games and prizes. Truck lovers of all ages will love the antique fire truck show, which offers the perfect backdrop for family photo ops. To top it all off, you can watch the pros in action with thrilling live demonstrations from our local firefighting heroes.
This celebration is deeply rooted in local history. In 1925, the City council approved construction of Pompano Beach's first fire station on NE 4th Avenue, between 2nd and 3rd Streets. By January 1, 1926, the building was officially on the rise. Later that year, on August 22, 1926, the station began housing the City's very first fire truck—a 1926 American LaFrance Type 75 pumper. Today, that original historic landmark is proudly preserved as the Old Pompano Fire Station, making this upcoming event the exact 100-year anniversary of that monumental first day of service.
