Incident Resolved - Sewage Overflow into Canal and Intracoastal

Update 9/12/22

The City of Pompano Beach Utilities Department has finished comprehensive sampling of the area waters over the weekend, and determined the canal water has returned to safe levels.

Residents can resume regular canal water activities in the area.

The City drinking water, is and has been safe to drink, bathe and cook.


Update 9/9/22

Waters have returned to normal. Residents can resume regular activities.


Update 9/8/22

The City of Pompano Beach Utilities Department crews have located and repaired the sewage pipe that leaked into the canal at 2000 SE 5 Court. The breach was located at Federal Highway and SE 5 Court. The repair was completed late last night.

People are advised not to swim, fish or irrigate from the canals in the area.

The City drinking water, is safe to drink, bathe and cook.


Update: 9/7/22

The City’s Utilities Department is working to locate the exact location of the sewage pipe break.

We are setting up traffic controls and working with FDOT to dig in the north bound lanes of Federal Highway. All northbound traffic on Federal Highway is being diverted for three blocks around the construction site. Please use caution and avoid the area if possible.

All appropriate County and State regulatory agencies have been notified in accordance with regulatory standards.

A sewage pipe breach has occurred at 2000 SE 5 Court in Pompano Beach which has spilled into the Canals flowing into the Intracoastal.

The City of Pompano Beach Utilities Department crews are actively working to locate and repair the source of the leak and resolve the issue.

People are advised not to swim, fish or irrigate from the canals.

The City drinking water, is safe to drink, bathe and cook.
