New Safety Tools Now in Place Across the City
Pompano Beach continues to invest in practical safety tools that make a real difference during emergencies — in the water, at our parks, and during severe weather.
Life Ring Stations at Waterfront Parks
Through our partnership with the Aden Perry Hero Life Ring Program, 17 life ring stations are now installed at 12 waterfront locations, including Alsdorf Park and the Bait Shop at the Fisher Family Pier.
They share one simple message: “Throw, Don’t Go.”
If someone is struggling in the water, throw the life ring to them instead of entering the water yourself. This allows bystanders to provide immediate help without putting their own lives at risk.
AED Cabinets in High-Traffic Park Areas
Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere. That’s why the City has installed Automated External Defibrillator (AED) cabinets at popular recreation areas, including Community Park pickleball courts and George Brummer Park.
When an AED cabinet is opened:
- 911 is automatically notified
- An alarm sounds to alert others nearby
- The device provides clear, step-by-step voice instructions
Even someone with no medical training can use an AED. Having them available in our parks helps ensure lifesaving care can begin immediately while first responders are on the way.
Real-Time Lightning Monitoring
Florida’s lightning risk is real — especially during outdoor sports and park activities.
The City uses the Perry Weather System to monitor lightning conditions specifically at our parks and athletic facilities. Unlike general weather apps, this system tracks activity in the immediate area and helps staff make quick decisions about clearing fields or pausing programs when lightning is detected nearby.
These tools work together to help protect our community year-round.
