More G.O. Pompano! Projects Completed

Pompano Beach has scored several amazing projects thanks to the “G.O. Pompano!” bond initiative. City officials recently presided over three fun-filled ribbon ceremonies to celebrate these milestones!

The brand-new Youth Sports Complex is a 4,000 square foot facility which features a concession area, office space, and restrooms; while the park boasts four brand new rectangular fields for soccer, lacrosse, and flag football. The two larger fields on the east half of the park feature state-of-the art sports lighting and first-class artificial turf. The two smaller fields feature Bermuda grass and were designed for younger children.

Residents in Pompano Beach had voiced their desire for rectangular fields to meet the explosive demand for soccer facilities, therefore City officials made it part of the General Obligation (GO) Bond initiative.

This state-of-the-art facility was designed to be a continuation of the Four Fields Complex on NE 10th Street, blend in with the community and provide parking support for the historic Sample-McDougald House built in 1916. The park is located at 700 NE 10 Street.

Centennial Park, which contains the historic Sample-McDougald House, sits on four-acres of land located at 450 NE 10th Street. The GO Bond funded improvements to the park including new walkways and an approximate 4,000 square foot open-air pavilion with a 1,000 square foot attached, enclosed building area.

Supplemental parking for the park has been allocated across the street at the new Youth Sports Complex. The added parking provides overflow that will be utilized during special events in the park such as weddings, communions, bar mitzvahs, and more.

The new pavilion has been dedicated to long-time resident and pioneer Margaret White, who played a significant role in moving and preserving the Sample-McDougald House to its current location at Centennial Park.

And last but not least, another favorite family location, the 26-year-old Kester Park was modernized with a variety of improvements including two dedicated baseball/softball fields, the reconstruction of existing grass areas, visitor dugouts, bleachers with shade structures, sports lighting, a new fenced-in outfield, batting cage, two scoreboards, crowd fencing, new park lighting and landscape. The park is located at 702 NE 6 Street.
