Dive In to Clean Up
It’s no secret that marine debris is a growing threat to our oceans, but much of the impact remains hidden just beneath the waves. Local fishing piers are beautiful hubs for coastal recreation, but over time, they also become hotspots for lost fishing lines, lead weights, plastics, and other debris that can tangle and harm local marine life.
If you have ever wanted to put your scuba skills to work for a great cause, now is your chance to make a massive, tangible difference.
DXDivers is hosting its annual Pompano Beach Underwater Pier Clean-up, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, and they are looking for a passionate community of divers to help clear the waters under the pier.
To give you an idea of the impact this event has, a dedicated crew of 591 participants showed up for the Deerfield Beach Pier Clean-up this past June, successfully pulling thousands of pounds of trash out of the ocean. Now, the goal is to bring that same incredible energy to Pompano Beach.
Check-in starts early at 7:30 AM at the DXDivers tent, which you can find set up on the south end of Lucky Fish. The morning moves quickly, with everyone gathering for a massive group photo in front of the pier at 8:15 AM before the dive officially starts at 8:20 AM. After you finish collecting debris, make sure to stick around for the raffle drawing taking place near the check-in tent at 11:15 AM.
Whether you are a seasoned local diver or looking to participate in your very first underwater cleanup, getting involved is simple. For $25, you can purchase a DXD Swag Bag, which includes an official participant event t-shirt and a raffle ticket for the morning drawing. DXDivers will also provide mesh cleaning bags and shears as needed to swag bag recipients, making it easy to safely cut away and store tangled lines and debris underwater.
Because free parking at the beach is limited, coordinating with other participants to carpool to the event is highly recommended. On the morning of the cleanup, you can drive directly to the gear drop-off location on the south side of Lucky Fish at 200 N Pompano Beach Blvd. Staff will be waiting there to take your heavy tanks and equipment so you can easily head over to the main parking lot located at 3460 NE 3rd St, Pompano Beach, FL 33062.
